Our Purpose

The fundamental goal of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority is to promote awareness of the myriad of cultures in our world. Our sorority addresses this issue through leadership, outreach, individual, community interaction, and most importantly, the bonds of syzterhood. The sorority also promotes development among its members, the students, and the faculty at each of the campuses we represent.

In order to achieve this goal, we partake in political, social, educational, and cultural activities. Each effort improves our environment and instills within our syzters' experiences that will follow them long after they’ve graduated. Through a network of like-minded yet highly individualistic womxn, the sorority lends structure and support to sorors that share this Sigma vision. We believe the strength of our foundation derives from the unity of syzterhood, one that was proudly established over twenty years ago.

In addition, we work in collaboration with other Greek and non-Greek organizations to provide services for the local communities and the community at large. It is through our various participations in these cultural events, educational workshops, and philanthropic support that we make a difference. Nationally, regionally and individually, we strive to embody the ideals of Sigma Psi Zeta.

Our Goals

1. To end violence against womxn, particularly womxn of color.

2. To educate about and advocate for the many cultures and heritages represented by our membership.

3. To develop leaders and provide tools for success in personal, academic, and professional settings.

4. To lead and serve for the benefit of the organization and the community.

Our Values

Diversity

Historically rooted in Asian/Pacific Islander American (APIA) advocacy, the sorority seeks to educate about our heritages to combat ignorance and intolerance, particularly on college campuses. As our values and philanthropy have continued to attract diverse womxn, the sorority expands its scope to intersectional advocacy and education to reflect and be inclusive of all cultures represented by our multicultural, multiethnic membership.

Empowerment

By building a foundation where womxn support womxn, particularly womxn of color, we seek to enable our student leaders. Through our network, we provide the tools and opportunities to grow and seize success in the careers and personal lives of our members. Through our philanthropy, we champion to end violence against womxn. We speak out for those who cannot speak. We act for those who cannot act. And through our unity, we uplift survivors, providing them a platform to be heard. We believe that the empowerment of our sorority is not enough, that our strength must be shared with our communities for all to succeed.

Feminism

At the core of our organization, we are a union of strong and independent womxn leaders who seek to lead and carry out change. We believe in and are proud of the strength of our syzterhood, that we can look within and find support and inspiration. We seek to support womxn, both within and external to our organization, throughout our endeavors.

Pioneers & Progress

Our history is marked by years of leadership excellence and innovation. We seek to pioneer change where we find it necessary. Part of that commitment to progress is our dedication to a hazing-free environment. From the establishment of an umbrella organization for APIDA Greek organizations to the participation in White House initiatives, the members of our organization create opportunities for others. We seek not only to shape the sorority we leave behind but to contribute to a greater cause: to build a better future beyond our letters.

Potential

Above all, we believe in the potential of our current and prospective members. We believe syzterhood is not a mold for womxn to fit into as our differences are what enhance and enrich our syzterhood. We do not seek the perfect syzter as we have not defined her. Instead, our syzters define themselves and we seek to support her. Our organization celebrates the individuality of thought in all the womxn who wear our letters.
